Ford F150 Info

2014 Ford F150

Out-tows, out-hauls any other truck in its class.

Buying a full-size pickup? Here are some hard facts to think about: The F-150 can tow a heavier trailer (11,300 lbs.) and haul more cargo (3,120 lbs.) than any of its competitors.* The F-150 has a fully boxed frame that’s the foundation of all this great capability. And it’s engineered and tested to withstand more punishment than you could ever subject it to. The F-150 is Built Ford Tough® to come through with the capability you expect in this full-size pickup from Ford, day in and day out.

Best-in-Class Towing

The F-150 gives you best-in-class trailer towing capability (11,300 lbs.)* with the added confidence and stability of standard trailer sway control (TSC)* and an available factoryintegrated trailer brake controller (TBC). What’s more, the selectable tow/haul mode on the standard 6-speed automatic transmission compensates for altitude, grade and load to aid performance, especially when you’re driving up steep grades or down extreme slopes. You can choose the Trailer Tow Package or the optional Max Trailer Tow Package with a special group of heavy-duty towing upgrades.

Best-in-Class Payload

The F-150 continues its tradition of delivering best-in-class* payload capability (3,120 lbs.). F-150 also has the most cargo box volume (81.3 cu. ft.) in its class.* And that’s not all. The available tailgate step and box side steps, both class-exclusive** features, provide easier access to all that payload capability.

AdvanceTrac® with Roll Stability Control™ (RSC®)

Corner too quickly or swerve to avoid an object and Roll Stability Control™ automatically employs its two gyroscopic sensors to measure vehicle roll and turning rates, then selectively applies individual brakes and modifies engine power to help keep all four wheels firmly planted. And it all happens instantaneously, faster than you can blink an eye.*

Standard Trailer Sway Control

Standard Trailer Sway Control (TSC) builds on the AdvanceTrac® with Roll Stability Control™ (RSC®) system to help maintain trailer control through selective wheel braking and reduced engine power.* The result is noticeable stability and control, which provides greater driver confidence when towing the largest loads.

Electronic Locking Rear Differential

The electronic-locking rear differential, when engaged, locks the rear axle completely to provide maximum traction at both rear wheels at the same time. The electronic-locking rear differential is fully integrated with the AdvanceTrac® with Roll Stability Control™ (RSC®) system to deliver excellent control when traveling on- or off-road. It’s standard on the FX4 and SVT Raptor, included in the Off-Road Package, and available on all other 4×2 and 4×4 models.

Integrated Trailer Brake Controller (TBC)

The F-150 offers an available fully integrated trailer brake Controller (TBC).* This first-in-class feature** synchronizes vehicle and trailer brakes for seamless braking (even with the heaviest loads) to provide added driving control and confidence.

  • * Compatible with electronically actuated trailer brakes including electric brakes and electric-over-hydraulic brakes. **Class is Full-Size Pickups under 8,500 lbs. GVWR.

Built Ford Tough® Frame Strength

Solid truck construction begins with the frame, the backbone of the truck. The F-150 frame features fully boxed, hydroformed high-strength steel with through-welded crossmembers, excellent static torsional and bending stiffness, and minimal overall frame deflection.

Outboard-Mounted Rear Shocks

Pickups are often called on to carry big payloads under a variety of driving conditions. That’s why Ford engineers gave the F-150 a Hotchkiss-design rear suspension with the shocks mounted outboard of the frame rails, for stability and control. Makes good sense.

The power you want. The efficiency you need.

Ford responds to high gas prices with the 3.7L Ti-VCT V6. This advanced-design powerplant delivers up to 23 MPG fuel economy* along with responsive 302 horsepower. Next in the F-150 engine lineup is the available 5.0L V8. It’s not only powerful but delivers excellent highway economy.** Another V8 option is the 6.2L V8 with its best-in-class† horsepower and torque. And there’s the available EcoBoost® engine, designed with direct injection technology and twin turbocharging for a combination of torque, efficiency and capability that’s unequaled in its class.††

Fuel-Efficient Technology

How does an engine achieve impressive fuel economy and at the same time deliver excellent performance? Advanced technology is a big part of the answer – a major reason why Ford can offer full-size pickup capable of achieving (up to) 23 hwy. mpg
•Twin-independent variable cam timing (Ti-VCT) is standard in the 3.7L V6, 5.0L V8 and EcoBoost® engines. With its precise variable, yet independent, control over intake/exhaust valve timing, TI-VCT helps make possible higher fuel economy numbers as well as power ratings.
•The innovative EcoBoost engine uses the precise fuel delivery of direct injection at each cylinder plus the high-performance capability of twin turbocharging.
•Electronically controlled 6-speed automatic transmission, standard with all engines, has close-ratio gearing optimized for low-end performance and high-end efficiency.

  • * EPA-estimated 17 city/23 hwy/19 combined mpg, 3.7L V6 4×2.

EcoBoost® Engine

Ford engineers drew from their extensive experience using direct-injection technology and turbocharging in diesel engine development and created the innovative EcoBoost® engine option that delivers the best combination of torque, efficiency and capability.* Direct injection produces a cooler, denser charge that generates more power per drop of fuel, while the two small air-to-air intercooled turbochargers spool up much more quickly than a single large turbo. What you experience is instantaneous low-end torque responsiveness with virtually no turbo lag. EcoBoost generates 90 percent of its amazing 420 lb.-ft. of torque from 1,700 to 5,000 rpm. F-150 with EcoBoost has best-in-class maximum towing capability at 11,300 lbs.** and offers up to 3,100 lbs. of payload. The EcoBoost engine underwent over 1,900 hours of testing at full-boost conditions, as well as thermal testing to simulate 10 years of operation in the harshest environments. So EcoBoost is up to any task — and then some.

  • * Available EcoBoost® engine. Based on torque, max. towing and payload, and EPA-estimated 16 city/22 hwy mpg, 4×2. Class is Full-Size Pickups under 8,500 lbs. GVWR, Non-Hybrid vs. comparable competitive engines. EcoBoost vs. 2013 GM 5.3L, Ram and Toyota 5.7L and Nissan 5.6L V8 engines.
** When properly equipped. Class is Full-Size Pickups under 8,500 lbs. GVWR vs. 2012/2013 competitors.

3.7L Ti-VCT V6

With today’s high prices at the pump, you need the highest fuel economy you can get from your pickup — but not at the expense of power. The standard 3.7L V6 in the F-150 4×2 delivers outstanding fuel economy with 23 highway MPG* — plus responsive 302 horsepower and 278 lb.-ft of torque. Standard V6 towing capability (6,700 lbs.) is best-in-class.** The 3.7L is E85 flex-fuel-capable, features dual overhead cams (DOHC) and four valves per cylinder, plus twin-independent variable cam timing (Ti-VCT) technology. Ti-VCT allows for variable control of the intake and exhaust camshafts, optimizing combustion at full load to increase power and low-speed torque. It also enables variable valve overlap, which enhances fuel economy and improves cold-start operation with lower exhaust emissions.

  • * EPA-estimated 17 city/23 hwy/19 combined mpg, 3.7L V6 4×2. ** When properly equipped. Class is Full-Size Pickups under 8,500 lbs. GVWR vs. 2012/2013 competitors.

5.0L Ti-VCT V8

The available 5.0L Ti-VCT V8 generates an impressive 360 horsepower and 380 lb.-ft. of torque. So not surprisingly, the 5.0L V8 has the most horsepower and torque, plus the highest towing capacity of any small-displacement V8 engine plus best-in-class payload.* And it flexes all this muscle while delivering an EPA-estimated 21 highway mpg.** The 5.0L is engineered with twin-independent variable cam timing (Ti-VCT) technology. Ti-VCT allows for variable control of the intake and exhaust camshafts, optimizing combustion at full load to increase power and low-speed torque. It also enables variable valve overlap, which improves cold start operation with lower exhaust emissions. Other notable features: a high-strength aluminum engine block, optimized camshafts and 10.5:1 compression ratio to help maximize low-speed torque, and a cylinder head designed to increase airflow. Along with its potent V8 power and flex-fuel capability, the 5.0L delivers proven Built Ford Tough® durability.

  • * When properly equipped. Class is Full-Size Pickups under 8,500 lbs. GVWR vs. 2012/2013 competitors. ** EPA-estimated 15 city/21 hwy/17 combined mpg, 4×2.

6.2L V8

The available 6.2L V8 features a single overhead cam valvetrain with dual-equal variable cam timing. The large bore (4.02 inches) allows for larger intake and exhaust valves for improved engine breathing, while the short stroke (3.74 inches) makes higher engine speed possible for increased horsepower. The 6.2L has lightweight aluminum cylinder heads and pistons for efficiency and employs a cast-iron cylinder block for durability. There are other impressive specs. But the ones you’re no doubt most interested in are those you can really feel: power ratings of 411 horsepower and 434 lb.-ft. of torque that no other engine in its class can match.* And if you’re into towing for business or recreation, how does a 11,300-lb. tow rating sound?** The 6.2L V8 is optional in the F-150 XLT, FX2, FX4, LARIAT and Platinum; standard in the SVT Raptor.

  • * Class is Full-Size Pickups under 8,500 lbs. GVWR vs. 2012/2013 competitors. ** When properly equipped.

Electronic 6-Speed Transmission with Tow/Haul Mode

The standard electronically controlled 6-speed close-ratio transmission helps optimize power delivery for excellent fuel economy. A selectable tow/haul mode improves performance when towing or hauling heavy loads. It compensates for grade and load and reduces gear hunting, improving power delivery. Engine braking also helps slow the truck when descending hills.

SelectShift Automatic® Transmission

The available SelectShift Automatic® has two modes of operation — Progressive Range Select or Full Manual. (1) Progressive Range Select lets you toggle on the shift lever to reduce the range of available gears while in Drive. Tap down into Range Select mode and the display shows the available gears and highlights the one in use. This feature allows you to limit the use of upper gears when heavily loaded or while towing on grades. (2) Full Manual function lets you pull the shift lever into “M” for manual mode and use the same toggle switch to select the gear desired. The display will show the selected gear and the control system will lock the torque converter and hold that gear for a full manual transmission feel. The SelectShift Automatic is available on XL, STX and XLT, and standard on all other models.

F-150 SVT Raptor

The unique brick-wall front grille is a bold statement that this is no ordinary truck. The F-150 SVT Raptor pushes the proven Built Ford Tough® truck heritage above and beyond ordinary roads. Cable Lock by Master Lock®

It’s hard to be productive without the right tools on hand. That’s where the available Cable Lock by Master Lock® comes in handy. Cable Lock adds security for tools and other valuable items stored in the pickup bed, connecting everything together with a vinyl-coated, 9.5-ft. braided steel cable that is easily looped through tool handles or equipment frames. A heavy-duty, self-locking shackle at the end of the cable attaches to a tie-down cleat or back around the cable itself. The cable retracts into a corrosion- and impact-resistant housing, and a spring-loaded retractor stows the cable neatly when not in use.
